Susan bares all for charity calendar

A daring medical secretary has overcome her insecurities and bared all for a charity calendar.

Susan Bulmer has taken her cue from Gok Wan's popular ‘How to Look Good Naked’ show and the smash hit film Calendar Girls, to take part in the ‘2009 Wearing Nothing But A Smile’ calendar from Riveredge Cosmetic Dentistry.

The 50-year-old of Rupert Street, Whitburn, decided to bare all after extensive dentistry work at Riveredge's Sunderland branch helped her to rebuild her confidence.

She said: "I had gone into the dentist for a regular appointment and everyone in there was talking about it. One of the girls asked me if I would do it and I thought about it for all of two seconds and thought why not?"

Insecurities about her smile began in 1985, after Susan was involved in a serious road traffic accident while working for a holiday firm in Ibiza. The accident left Susan with several broken bones and meant she needed extensive dental work to repair damage to her teeth and gums.

The repairs were done as soon as she returned to the UK, but little over a year ago she developed a painful abscess and was forced to seek further treatment at Riveredge to renew all the original dental work. Susan, who works at South Tyneside Hospital, said: "The finished result is absolutely marvellous. "I smile a lot more now and it has really boosted my confidence."

Susan posed naked for the calendar, which is raising money for cancer charities, at a photoshoot at the Mansion House in Jesmond.

The calendar will be available soon from Riveredge's clinics in Wylam Wharf, Sunderland, and Osborne Road, Jesmond.
